Product Brief, Intel Ultimate N Wi-Fi Link 5300 Product description The Intel Ultimate N WiFi Link 5300 series is a family of IEEE 802.11a/b/g/Draft-N1 wireless network adapters that operate in both the 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz spectra. It works perfect in Windows.4 so i used ethernet and click Next. So, for a further note, the wireless device in my laptop was not shipped this way by factory, they upgraded to this about a month after I bought the laptop, so I ordered one and installed it.

And apparently never thought about it too hard, HW RF Kill switch would make sense to mean something along the lines of hardware radio function kill switch. The last bullet, Radio disabled by HW RF Kill switch was the problem a friend of mine ran into when trying to get Gentoo on my laptop a couple months back while I was in school, he said he'd never seen it before and I just kind of forgot about it for awhile. However, neither file has an lbm in front of it. As I remember it from my previous searching pertaining to other people having problems with this wireless card, the 5000-1 file is an old driver, and the 5000-2 file is the newer one that should work, which I have. Now, a couple things I feel are worth noting: it says it's requesting lbm-iwlwifi-5000-1.ucode. ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready iwlagn 0000:02:00.0: Radio disabled by HW RF Kill switch phy0: Selected rate control algorithm 'iwl-agn-rs' iwlagn 0000:02:00.0: Detected Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5300AGN REV=0x24 iwlagn 0000:02:00.0: setting latency timer to 64 iwlagn: Copyright(c) 2003-2009 Intel Corporation iwlagn: Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link AGN driver for Linux, 1.3.27ks Luckily this laptop has an actual switch, and not a button I could press by accident, been there, done that, lol. etc/nf = one big white screen of nothing. Iwconfig has a listing for wlan0 and nothing for wmaster0, I tried both in the configuration for Wicd with no change.

However I would like to make it the main (only) OS on my laptop since I don't feel like getting another copy of Windows 7, and I don't game on it, so it would be perfect for a workstation. It's been at that level for roughly 3 years. My level of linux knowledge doesn't go very far past amused tinkering I'm afraid. Well, I decided to try Wicd because it worked for my desktop, lol.

More specifically:Ĭapabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list logical ethernet physical wirelessĬonfiguration: breadcast=yes driver=iwlagn latency=0 module=iwlagn multicast=yes wireless=IEEE 802.11abgnĪm I missing a step? WICD just says no wireless networks found. Running lshw-C network shows a Wireless interface, labeled as the Wireless WiFi Link 5300 by intel. I've moved iwlwifi-5000-2.ucode into the lib64/firmware folder. If I run iwconfig it shows a wireless extension at wlan0. I've got a Thinkpad X200 Tablet with the intel 5300 AGN wireless card. So, wireless is kind of my number 1 issue right now.

I stuck with the Windows 7 RC for awhile, but apparently its time will be up shortly. I have thus far had no success with any distribution of linux.
